Overview
The GP out of hours service is for people who are very ill and need urgent medical treatment at a time when the doctor’s surgery is closed and they are unable to wait until it reopens. The out of hours service must not be used for minor ailments or dental issues.
If your condition is life threatening, for example, you suspect you are having stroke or heart attack, telephone 999 immediately and ask for an ambulance.
The out of hours service is available by phone during the following hours:
- 6.00 pm to 9.00 am Monday to Friday
- 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday
- 24 hours on public holidays

- given advice
